COLLECTIVE LEADERSHIP: It’s the foundation of Kobi Dennis’ path to a better Providence and why it is the hashtag to several posts. And as the longtime leader says, achieving sustainable change is as easy as ABCD, or the Asset-Based Community Development mindset.
The premise of ABCD is communities can drive the development process themselves by identifying and mobilizing existing, but often unrecognized assets, and thereby responding to and creating local economic opportunity.
It builds on the assets that are already found in the community and mobilizes individuals, associations, and institutions to come together for change. Change that is desperately needed in Providence.
What several city residents, past and current administrations are guilty of is believing we need to look elsewhere to solve our issues here at home. National best practices are helpful and will be vetted with the great ideas from our diverse, talented residents. ABCD’s community-driven approach is active participation and empowerment (and the prevention of disempowerment.)
